Position summary
The Graduate Teaching Student Assistant (GTSA) will support development of a new online, modular course, Generative AI for Public and Global Health Practice, launching Winter 2027. The GTSA will work with eDGH instructional design and media staff and faculty content leads to adapt existing materials, coordinate guest experts, and help build case-based learning activities for two audiences: UW graduate students and working health professionals in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Key responsibilities

  • Support the e-learning design/production team in developing an asynchronous, online course (10 modules).
  • Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to draft/revise module content, video scripts, and learning activities aligned to learning objectives.
  • Coordinate guest experts (scheduling, prep, follow-up) and support development of interview questions; assist with post production editing.
  • Review and reframe content to ensure clarity, accessibility, and relevance for professional learners in LMIC contexts (tone, examples, feasibility, equity considerations).
  • Identify and recommend module readings/resources, prioritizing open-access and LMIC-relevant materials.
  • Draft case studies and applied learning activities in conjunction with content experts.
  • Test selected free/low-barrier GenAI tools and document practical considerations for LMIC users (connectivity, device constraints, privacy, usability).
  • Build/review content in the LMS (as assigned), including discussion prompts, self-reflection questions, and brief module announcements.
  • Support collection and synthesis of student/professional learner feedback to inform iterative course improvements.

Appointment details

  • 10 hours/week Summer quarter
  • Reports to the eDGH project manager and lead faculty as well as works closely with the lead eDGH instructional designers.

Skills/Eligibility:

Required qualifications

  • Current UW graduate student (eligible for GSTA appointment).
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in public health/global health education and/or digital learning.
  • Strong writing/editing skills; ability to translate technical concepts into clear learner-facing language.
  • Experience working across diverse cultural or global contexts; ability to assess relevance for LMIC health professional audiences.
  • Strong organization and communication skills (scheduling, tracking tasks, coordinating across team members).

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with generative AI concepts and responsible-use considerations (ethics, bias, privacy, verification).
  • Experience with online course development and/or educational media development.
  • Experience identifying open educational resources (OER) and evaluating evidence-based readings.
