Position Summary: The School of Public Health MPH Core is seeking up to two Teaching Assistants (TAs) for PHI 511. Each position is 20 hours per week during the 2026 autumn quarter.  The MPH program includes six courses, taken as a single cohort by all MPH degree students, in the first year of study. These TAs will support teaching 1 course, with expected course enrollment of about 120 students. This position has the potential to continue in future quarters.

PHI 511: Foundations of Public Health Course Description

This interdisciplinary core course examines public health and healthcare in the US and globally using a social justice lens and emphasizing the interconnectedness of population and individual health. Using public health and healthcare delivery as the overarching framework, the course will cover foundational elements of public health, including, but not limited to, its history and impact, the importance of health equity and human rights, and how racism manifests and is perpetuated within public health and healthcare systems. The course will build a sense of community and instill a public health mindset among each entering MPH cohort by having all students learning together, and it will lay the foundation for students to work effectively as public health professionals on inter-professional teams.

Class Schedule: M/W 11:30 am - 12:50 pm

Skills/Eligibility:

Required Qualifications: Minimum standing of current graduate student. Preference will be given to applicants in the School of Public Health.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Canvas; prior teaching assistant

Salary: Half-time (50% FTE) monthly rates range from $3,283 to $3,621, commensurate with academic eligibility.  Benefits and eligibility information available here.
