Position Summary: The Public Health-Global Health Major is seeking up to two (2) Teaching Assistants (TA), up to 20 hours per week, during autumn 2026. The TAs will support teaching of the undergraduate course SPH 381: Science and Public Health, with anticipated course enrollment of approximately 110 students. This is an upper-division science course for Public Health-Global Health Majors, investigating the biochemical, environmental, genetic, and nutritional pathways to infectious and chronic diseases and public health outcomes. The position is appropriate for students who are, at minimum, a graduate student in the School of Public Health and have background and interest in basic science, environmental health, biology, biochemistry, chemistry, toxicology, and genetics.
Specific Job Functions:
- Assist in course coordination and implementation
- Attend class sessions
- Present lectures and facilitate discussions
- Grade assignments, including writing assignments
- Host Facilitated Study Groups and/or office hours (2 hrs/week)
- Update and maintain course canvas site
- Request or acquire necessary equipment
- Prepare and maintain course attendance records
- Review literature
- Other tasks, as necessary
Skills/Eligibility:
Required Qualifications: Minimum standing of current graduate student in the School of Public Health; satisfy a sexual misconduct background check
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree, especially in biology, environmental health, public health, (bio)chemistry, toxicology, or related field; enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate students
Notes: SPH 381 lectures will occur on Monday and Wednesday, 1:00pm-2:20pm in AUT 2026, with discussion sections happening on Fridays. Please consult the current time schedule for additional information about days, times, and locations.
Salary: Half-time (50% FTE) monthly rates range from $3,611 to $3,983, commensurate with academic eligibility. Benefits and eligibility information available here.
