Position Summary: The Public Health-Global Health Major is seeking one (1) Reader/Grader up to 19 hours per week, during autumn 2026. The Reader/Grader will support SPH 389: Race, Racism, and Public Health (5 credits), with anticipated course enrollment of 120 students. SPH 389 R/G is a position appropriate for graduate students in the School of Public Health with an interest in supporting a course on anti-racism that utilizes active learning and group work to introduce students to racial and structural oppression and its impact on the health and wellness of populations. The course begins by discussing the origins and history of racism in the United States and then explores the meaning of racism and how it undermines public health systems and institutions resulting in poor health. Using an anti-racism framework, students will engage in intergroup dialogue to explore their individual relationships to racism and analyze ways internalized racism acts as a barrier to health equity vis a vis our roles as public health practitioners.
