The Emergency Preparedness Specialist is responsible to support the development and maintenance of the Emergency Management Program from an "All Hazards" approach. In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Emergency Preparedness Specialist is responsible to support all activities and training related to Emergency Preparedness and Response, to include but not limited to collaboration with internal and external departments and agencies including those at the organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels. The position is responsible for aiding in the design and exercising of emergency plans across the Valley Medical Center organization. The Emergency Preparedness Specialist holds an active role in the Emergency Management Committee, provides necessary project management and support for all Emergency Management agenda items, and aids in the coordination and completion of all grants related to the Emergency Management Program. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Skills/Eligibility:

PREREQUISITES:

1. Bachelor’s degree, required. An additional 4 years of relevant and applicable work experience may substitute degree requirement.

2. Minimum 3 years of experience in supporting emergency response or in one or more of the following: disaster preparedness, environmental health and safety, fire safety, and/or incident command systems preferred.

3. Completion of FEMA(NIMS) courses (IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800) required within six months of hire.

4. Completion of FEMA Professional Development Series and/or Professional Continuity Practitioner preferred.

5. Experience in presenting educational materials to diverse audiences, preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be able to work under limited supervision, in stressful situations, and with potentially short deadlines.

2. Knowledge of federal, state, local and Joint Commission requirements and working in a public-sector healthcare setting.

3. Healthcare training and clinical experience preferred.

4. Capable of working effectively with different department personnel and medical staff.

5. Strong skills related to organizational teamwork and program development.

6. Experience working with all levels of regulatory agencies.

7. Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

8. Professional manner and grooming.

9. Demonstrate exceptional communication skills both verbal and written that will be effective with a diverse population.

10. Must be strong on organizational teamwork and have the capability of developing strong client relations programs.

11. Must be adept at maintaining or improving service levels during periods of diminishing resources.
