Description:

The Department of Global Health has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time (50% FTE) Research Assistant. Under the supervision of Principal Investigator, Dr. Kristen Danforth, the Research Assistant will support research one a suite of funded programs for Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) secondary prophylaxis program. The program (“ADUNU”)—a partnership of the Uganda Heart Institute, the RRCU, and the Ugandan Ministry of Health (MOH)—is the first large-scale, replicable model for RHD early detection and longitudinal care. ADUNU trains nurses to perform echocardiographic screening in clinics, schools, and communities, builds confirmatory diagnostic capacity, and uses a national cloud-based registry (the ACT platform) to track patients and support delivery of secondary prophylaxis. The program is now scaling up and expanding to other provinces and countries.  

 

The Research Assistant will be an integral team member whose role encompasses completing literature review(s), qualitative analysis and IRB development/submission(s).

 

• Prepare IRB materials and coordinate submission.

• Conduct literature review(s) to inform program development

• Prepare materials for meetings and group dissemination including drafting manuscripts

• Qualitative data analysis (semi-structured interviews)

• Manage and respond to program related communications/emails

• Attend meetings which may be outside of normal working hours due to time zone differences in East Africa, Europe and Australia.

Skills/Eligibility:

Preferred qualifications include: 

  • PhD level student OR Masters level student with significant experience (1-2 years) in qualitative analysis and literature reviews, 
  • prior experience with IRB submissions,
  •  interest in implementation science, health systems, and/or qualitative methods, 
  • pursuing a graduate program in Global Health or Health Metrics preferred.
