Description:

We are currently seeking an early career Technical Specialist or Assistant Scientist to join our Sediment and Water Investigations and Monitoring team, with a mission to provide scientific, quantitative data and evaluations focused on key issues surrounding the environment for design, permitting, monitoring, or compliance purposes. Our projects are primarily focused on coastal, estuarine, and terrestrial watersheds.  Under the direction of senior scientists, you assist in the performance of water, stormwater, and sediment sampling; testing; and report preparation. 

This position is an in-office/field position. You must have the ability and willingness to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions. Your work schedule at times will be defined by storm forecasts and may include working nights and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

 As a Technical Specialist or Assistant Scientist, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Collecting river, creek, ocean, and stormwater samples 
  • Collecting sediment and water samples both on land and from boats 
  • Executing laboratory bottle cleaning procedures and maintaining facility organization 
  • Maintaining accurate field and laboratory logs 
  • Installing and operating water collection equipment and electronic monitoring equipment 
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting field equipment 
  • Maintaining warehouse organization and operations

Skills/Eligibility:

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in environmental related science or have at least 2 years of experience in a related or technical field. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated strong personal initiative towards projects, critical thinking, and problem solving 
  • Adherence to quality control and quality assurance procedures to ensure data integrity 
  • Laboratory-level attention to detail and interest in wet laboratory management 
  • Effective and professional communication with clients and coworkers 
  • Adherence to company, project, state, and federal safety policies 
  • Flexibility with work hours as required to meet project needs 
  • Affinity for working outdoors in all weather conditions, with some nights and weekends 
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 
  • Ability to follow technical prescriptive sampling direction requirements 
  • Ability to accurately document activities and standard observations 
  • Demonstrated self-motivation 
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license (or ability to obtain one upon hire) and a clean driving record.  
  • Ability to lift and carry items of varying weights as required by the job, occasionally up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft® Office products Word and Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
