JOB PURPOSE AND IMPACT

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist will provide expertise to ensure compliance regarding environmental, health and safety regulations. In this role, you will help develop, implement and maintain processes and programs that comply with Cargill standards and federal, state and local regulations and requirements. You will work with a 70-person team to support a moderately complex corn oil refinery with a hexane extraction process and a corn syrup terminal. You will report to the facility’s EHS Manager.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Implement and handle processes and systems for environmental, health and safety hazard identification and risk management.
  • Work with Departments for all EHS needs. Complete environmental and safety inspections, workplace audits, and hazard analyses to identify potential risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Participate in incident investigations based on incident classification to identify the root cause and help prevent recurrence.
  • Implement and execute controls and programs and ensure they work as planned.
  • Prepare for audits, governmental inspections and customer visits and identify data and reports needed to monitor performance and compliance against goals.
  • Develop and deliver training programs, toolbox talks, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with departments to create and execute comprehensive emergency response plans, including drills and post-event evaluations.
  • Understand risks applicable to contractor and external service providers, implement, monitor and evaluate approved processes to control environmental health and safety risks with contractors.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.

Skills/Eligibility:

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • In depth knowledge of legislation and business processes in environmental health and safety systems, environmental protection, industrial safety.

PREFERRED

  • Knowledge of programs, tools and technologies aimed at reducing injuries.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups in a large organization.
  • Experience with environmental health and safety management systems.
  • 4 years relevant work experience.
  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
