Course: ENV H 311, Introduction to Environmental Health (3)
Quarter: Autumn 2026
Class Days/Times: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays 10:30am – 11:20am HSEB

Position Description: DEOHS is seeking a Teaching Assistant (TA) to work 20 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Review and update course syllabus
- Attend all class sessions
- enter all hours into a weekly timesheet
- Schedule and conduct review sessions outside of regular class time
- Hold regular office hours
- Review/collect relevant literature, textbooks, online resources, etc.
- Meet regularly with instructor
- Prepare lectures or develop in-class activities/handouts
- Respond to student emails/Canvas messages
- Develop assessments (quizzes, exams) and associated rubrics
- Score and provide feedback on assignments/assessments
- Develop assignments (homework, final project/paper guidelines, etc.) and associated rubrics
- Import and/or update content on course Canvas site
- Develop polling questions (e.g., for PollEverywhere, Zoom)
- Develop new content for Canvas site
- Enter grades/comments in Canvas
- Create and/or post Panopto recordings to Canvas site Conduct in-class polls (e.g, using PollEverywhere, Zoom) Facilitate/lead in-class discussions
- Present one or more lecture/presentation in class
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a current graduate student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and registered for at least 10 credits during the quarter of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
- experience with introduction of EH coursework
Eligibility: Must be a current graduate student in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences and registered for at least 10 credits during the quarter of employment.
Salary and Terms of Employment:
- A 50% FTE Teaching Assistantship pays a stipend that varies depending on graduate level as indicated on Schedule 1 of the UW TA Salary Chart.
- Teaching Assistants are required to register for a minimum of 10 credits in the quarter that they hold the position.
- The operating fee (including tuition) will be paid by the department. However, the successful applicant will be responsible for paying any additional student fees.
- Graduate Appointee accident/sickness insurance will be provided.
- This job classification is governed by a negotiated labor contract and is subject to union shop provisions.
