Research Assistant (RA) - Winter to Summer 2027 - Department of Bioethics and Humanities (Student/ASE)
Description:
The University of Washington Department of Bioethics and Humanities (B&H) has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Assistant (RA) to contribute to an NIH Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) four-year R01 focused on cloud-based data sharing and analysis platforms and their promise to ‘democratize’ the genomic data sciences (R01 HG014544). The grant comprises a data science aim assessing patterns of genomic data access and use in federal data repositories before and after the proliferation of cloud platforms and a qualitative aim focused on interviewing different classes of underrepresented genomic data scientists located throughout the United States. The grant will culminate in a national meeting of expert advisors, platform developers, and other interested parties to discuss findings and propose potential approaches to promote more inclusive and equitable cloud-based genomic data access and use.
The RA will contribute to the qualitative research aims; perform research support tasks such as literature reviews and synthesis; and generally support the PIs, Co-Investigators, and Research Coordinator with relevant operational tasks. This position is appropriate for graduate students with an interest in qualitative research, genomic data science, and/or bioethics.
