The Grayston-Day awards seek to increase the number of health professionals from diverse communities by funding the education of underrepresented students in the public health field.

Ali N’Simbo

Community-Oriented Public Health Practice
Hometown: Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo

“I come from a country with some of the world’s poorest health indicators and I have survived 18 years of war. As a physician, I know what it’s like to work in resourcepoor settings and to witness preventable deaths. My vision is of an emergency and primary health care system that meets the needs of the entire family, the pillar of communities.”

Dajzsa McDaniel

Master of Health Administration
Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

“Health care is such a complex industry and I want to better understand how to make caredelivery more equitable for patients. The Grayston-Day award was a big help for living costs, especially as an out-ofstate student. I’m grateful there are people in public health who support students emerging in the field. I hope to pay it forward in a similar capacity.”
