By 2050, an estimated 70 percent of the world’s population will live in urban areas.  Especially in cities, issues such as walkability, public transportation, housing, access to healthy food, injury prevention, air and water quality, sanitation, social connectedness, health disparities, and environmental justice dramatically affect population health.

To address the increasing need to create and sustain healthy and equitable urban communities, the University of Washington School of Public Health is now offering a new interdisciplinary MPH and Master of Urban Planning (MUP) concurrent degree program. The three-year program will prepare students for careers in public health or planning, and for the cross-disciplinary work that will be needed in the future.

Said Andrew Dannenberg, affiliate professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, "We have seen substantial interest among both public health and urban planning students in cross-disciplinary work on public health and the built environment.  And both disciplines are committed to the betterment of human life and the environment through systematic change."
