The University of Washington School of Public Health ranked No. 3 in the world and No. 1 among public universities, according to the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2017. This widely-used ranking, emphasizing scientific impact, was conducted by researchers at the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

More than 4,000 universities were ranked in 52 subjects across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences and social sciences.

“This recognition speaks to our excellent scientific research and education, and is also strong validation of the impact we have globally,” said Interim Dean Joel Kaufman. “Our success is due to the combined efforts of many people across five departments, five interdisciplinary programs, more than 50 research centers and our many research partners.”

The School, founded in 1970, has a long history of excellence. Faculty, students and staff team up on data-driven research projects while seeking solutions to some of the world's most pressing population health problems, from global environmental change to local health disparities. The School is a major contributor to improving the health of populations in Washington state, the Pacific Northwest and in more than 130 countries across the globe.

Earlier this year, the School was ranked No. 5 among the world’s top university programs in public, environmental and occupational health by the Center for World University Rankings. In 2015, U.S. News & World Report ranked the School No. 6 among the top public health graduate schools in the country; third among publicly funded schools of public health.
