Tony Gomez receives lifetime achievement award for violence and injury prevention

 

Tony Gomez, a clinical instructor of Health Systems and Population Health and ‘84 alum of Environmental Health, was honored for invaluable contributions to violence and injury prevention in King County, Washington, and the U.S. Gomez received the Alex Kelter Vision Lifetime Achievement Award from the Safe States Alliance, a national nonprofit and professional organization dedicated to violence and injury prevention.

In addition to his role at the University of Washington School of Public Health, Gomez is the manager of Violence and Injury Prevention in the Health Sciences Division of Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC). Over Gomez’s 40-year career, he has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities through equity and excellence.  

At PHSKC he wrote the nation’s first local health water park rules and developed systems evaluating water and shellfish impacts from septic systems. Gomez supervised environmental health programs, oversaw the Prevention Division and started the Violence and Injury Prevention Program. Gomez also co-leads the Statewide Drowning Prevention Network, Target Zero Traffic Safety Coalition and does firearm injury prevention research. He is a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Child Injury Prevention from Washington Safe Kids.
