Different SPH departments and programs will take turns hosting seminars featuring speakers who conduct a variety of practice-oriented work, providing an in-depth look at public health in action. 🔹 Feb 13 – Sara Wuellner (Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries, Safety and Health Assessment and Research for Prevention “SHARP” Program) will discuss her work leading our state’s Occupational Injury and Illness Surveillance Program, focusing on data quality, novel data sources, and workplace injury surveillance improvements.
Community Water Fluoridation: A Parable of Science, Politics and the Public's Health
🔹 Feb 20 – Lauren Jenks (Washington State Dept. of Health, Environmental Public Health) will share insights from her leadership roles at the Department of Health, Washington State Public Health Association, and the American Public Health Association.
Addressing Places in Seattle Where Overdoses and Crime are Concentrated: An Evidence-Based Approach
🔹 April 1 – Claudia Gross Shader (City of Seattle, Office of City Auditor) will discuss using data for public action, including research on public safety, unsheltered homelessness, and substance use disorder.
