Why did you choose the UW?

The UW and the School of Public Health have a strong commitment to service and to research. I completed my bachelor’s in nursing at the UW, and wanted to return for my graduate education.

Why did you decide to get into health administration?

I have a desire to bring long-term solutions to problems in the health care industry. I specifically liked the UW MHA program because of its emphasis on leadership.

What motivates you about public health and health services?

Health care is a necessity for everyone. I hope to work in this field to continue to innovate and improve health services.

Are you working or interning right now? If so, tell us about it.

I work as a Registered Nurse at Harborview Medical Center. It’s a very rewarding experience to provide care for patients with injuries related to trauma. Since Harborview is a King County hospital, I also have the privilege of providing health care to the underserved.

I also recently completed a summer internship at Neighborcare Health. It was a wonderful opportunity, where I worked on many interesting projects. While there, I authored a Nurse-Driven Hypertension Protocol, which was approved by the chief medical officer and rolled out organization-wide.

Any thoughts about receiving the SPH Endowed Fellowship?

I'm very grateful and humbled to have received this award. I appreciate that the School of Public Health appreciates, recognizes and supports students committed to academic excellence and leadership. I will be using the money towards my education in the UW MHA program.

Any extracurricular activities?

I love to watch football with my husband, and I love Bollywood dance.

What are your future goals?

To work in operations or quality improvement. My short-term goal is to become a clinic manager to help deliver efficient, transparent and high-quality care.

Do you have any advice for students applying for funding opportunities?

Just go for it. While the application process may take some time, it never hurts to try.

What do you like most about Seattle?

I love the summers in Seattle. The weather is perfect for hiking.
