The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s Division of Public Health invites applications for the position of Director of the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program. The MPH, launched in 2006 as the first degree program of the college’s growing Program in Public Health, draws students from throughout the country and internationally. We engage students in on-line coursework and practical training to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities required to succeed as public health professionals and to realize our vision of providing a global on-line learning experience in public health. Academic department and rank will be determined based upon qualifications and experience.

The Director of the MPH program will advance, strengthen, and promote all activities associated with the MPH program. The Director is responsible for the overall curriculum and implementation of the program; oversees quality control and assurance procedures and processes; admissions; enrollment; and development of certificate programs associated with the MPH. The Director is held accountable for the effective application of core competencies and demonstration of related skills throughout the program’s courses and for successful application for accreditation to the Council on Education for Public Health. (CEPH) The Director manages faculty, staff, and advisors of the MPH degree program including recruitment, selection, evaluation and termination. The Director will also teach, develop curriculum and courses, and produce scholarship. The position is in the university’s fixed term appointment system and may be renewed annually. This is an off-campus position located at the College of Human Medicine’s Flint, MI headquarters. Occasional travel to the East Lansing campus will be required. The Director of the MPH program will report directly to the Director of the Division of Public Health and work closely with Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.


Required Degree

Doctorate -Public Health or related discipline

Minimum Requirements

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree, preferably in public health or a related discipline; experience working in public health or related fields; demonstrated administrative and research skills; at least one previous leadership role with faculty or instructors; strong interpersonal and communication skills. Other essential attributes include teaching experience, both in-class and in an asynchronous online format; peer-reviewed publication record; experience working with diverse groups of faculty, instructors, staff, and students; commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Desired Qualifications

Successful track-record with academic program accreditation, preferably through the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
